The first official day of summer may still be a couple of months away, but as the weather warms throughout the U.S. many consumers are already in that summer state of mind. That means we won’t find them sitting in front of their computers as much for a while. Where we will find them, though, is on their mobile devices.
Some of the big names online have already figured that out. Google is going to start offering targeted app ads on mobile devices, and it seems they are also testing a redesign of their mobile search interface. Meanwhile, Pinterest has just launched Guided Search, a visual search and discovery engine that at first glance seems both useful and appealing.
For more on search, social media, and all things online marketing, take a look at this week’s links . . .
Local Search:
- Check out this interview for some in-depth discussion of local search and its uses.

- I love this piece for two reasons. First, looking at link building through the lens of Eastern philosophy is a fresh and fascinating perspective. Second, the author seems to subscribe the the “just be a human being” method, and that’s something I really wish more marketers would try.
Social Media:
- There’s never a shortage of new social media statistics these days, and the latest numbers give Facebook a large lead when it comes to generating referrals.
General SEO and Online Marketing:
- On Wednesday, Julia gave us this fantastic list of places to find images for your content.
- More great tips from Matt Cutts this week via Google Webmaster Help. This time he’s answering the question of how smaller sites can compete in search.
That’s it for this week, but be sure to use the links to the right to find us on social media if you have something you think we should share. See you next Friday!
