What did Google set out to achieve with the release of Panda?
- A. Fix bugs from the previous update
- B. Preventing sites that have low quality content from getting high rankings
- C. Make it easier to streamline all of your Google accounts
(See answer below)
The main goal of Google’s Panda update was to make sure that SEOs are raising the level of the content they publishing online. While link building is still an integral component of search engine optimization, providing site visitors with quality material to read is equally as important.
Google Panda was originally released in February 2011 with a serious mission to block sites with low quality content from reaching high rankings. Panda works by using a ratio of a website’s inbound links compared to reference queries. This ratio is used in the creation of a modification factor, which will lower a page’s rank if the page fails to meet a certain factor.
When Panda launched, it changed the rankings of roughly 12% of search results. In addition, its initial launch led to numerous cases of webmasters complaining that copyright infringers were able to achieve better site rankings. Because of this, Google posted tips on their blog to help webmasters evaluate their websites for quality content. This includes a 23-point bulleted list.
