Welcome to SEO Advantage’s Trivia feature Friday, where we discuss, dissect and comment on the internet and marketing, and how the two intertwine.
In terms of SEO ranking, which social media platform has the largest pull in Google?
- A. Twitter
- B. Google+
- C. Facebook
- D. LinkedIn
(See answer below)
More and more, businesses are turning to social media not only as a way to connect with their customer, but also boost “social signals” that drive search engine returns. Experts call this new SEO component “social search.”
Social searches encompass every major social media platform, which means that regardless which platform you frequent, you’re making social connections. If you’re trying to improve your business’s search engine rankings, you’d want to focus on making connections with people who can make positive and/or influential contributions to your business. Having influential individuals commenting, sharing and leaving reviews about your business will help your search visibility improve.
But the big question is: Which social media platform can help you the most? According to Moz contributor Cyrus Shepard, Google +1s (not Facebook or Twitter) are correlated with the biggest potential for what we like to call “Google juice” – or boosted Google rankings.
“After Page Authority, a URL’s number of Google +1s is more highly correlated with search rankings than any other factor. In fact, the correlation of Google +1s beat out other well known metrics including linking root domains, Facebook shares, and even keyword usage,” Shepherd says.
